A salute is any firework where the primary purpose is to explode on the ground with a loud noise, also called a report. As of 1966, salutes cannot contain more than 50mg of powder if they go off on the ground, o130mg if they go off in the air (this is the law in the US, it varies from country to country). M-80's and other large salutes are illegal, but can still be found in some places. M-80's and related salutes are often mistakenly called fireworks, and I've probably done it a few times myself, but they are too powerful to be classified as fireworks.
My page on making M-80 style salutes.
Basic salutes - My page on the simple design of a ground salute. Basically the same thing as above, this page was just made earlier and doesnít look as nice.
Real or fake?-Are you going to get ripped off buying fake salutes? Read this and learn to tell the difference.
Bird Bombs etc. - Info on explosive devices used to scare away birds and other pests.
Cherry bombs - Some have asked me about these. The reason I do not have anything on them is because they are basically just a round M80 that takes a lot more work to make. If you are interested in their construction anyway, you will find something if you search around the rec.pyrotechincs archives and the E&W forum.
