Spontaneous Reactions

This was just playing around because it looked fun...

Test #1:

KClO3 (potassium chlorate)/sucrose (table sugar) ignited with a drop of H2SO4 (sulfuric acid). I just mixed the KClO3/sucrose in fairly equal amounts, with a bit more KClO3, I just wanted it to ignite, I wasn't worried about getting the perfect ratios.

Powder and acid:

Ignition a few seconds after adding acid:

Residue after suggesting a rather inefficient mixture:

Test #2:

KMnO4 (potassium permanganate) ignited with glycerine. The reaction takes more or less time depending on ambient temperature and how fine the KMnO4 crystals are.

5g KMnO4:

Burning (some of the flame is from the paper it was in because the wood was a bit wet):

KMnO4 does a good job of staining things, and pouring water on the stuff once it went out made this nice mess:

I have videos, but they aren't all that good. Rat_Bastard has better ones that will be up in his section eventually.
